AWD Vs. 4×4: How Do They Perform Off-Road?

( ) The 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander S-AWC is equipped with one of the more advanced AWD systems that works automatically. On the other hand, the 2016 Nissan Frontier 4×4 PRO-4X uses a 4×4 system that is controlled by the driver. How do they perform in the deep snow and on the steep Gold Mine Hill off-road test?

AWD Vs. 4×4: How Do They Perform Off-Road?

  1. Guys suck in creating car videos! How can you use standard tires in off road!? Pfff pathetic! Has Nisan payed you to put good tires on Navara?

  2. Look at the tires – no matter what system all season on the awd is wasting time. Do it again with NOKIAN Hakka’s — uselwess comp. IMO

  3. If you read the manual for the truck, it should tell you that 4 low isn’t to increase traction. It’s to either tow heavy items in off road situations or to attempt extreme climbing where you need extra torque.

  4. It’s really all about the tires. Snow tires make a huge difference. I think many people think all seasons are good in snow.

  5. this video proves that the AWD is better because the nissan didn’t go any much further with better tires, locking dif. and low range

  6. Why you use Mitsubishi Outlander which doesn’t have true AWD? You should use the Subaru Forester which has real AWD.

  7. Just watched it all to find out only one had snow tires. Sorry guys but thumbs down. Do a video on snow tires and how effective they are. This video is invalid 🙁

  8. At the very least have the same type of tire in comparison. Also the second vehicle has an advantage do you to the first vehicle packing it down a tad

  9. Stupid comparison. I have gone places with the correct tires in an AWD and conversely gotten stuck with Lo range on a part time 4wd SUV in the past. Tires matter, not the systems.

  10. How can the AWD compete if you are using all season tires against a 4×4 with off road tires? You guys didn’t really think this one out. That AWD system would outperform the 4×4 if the tire setup was flipped

  11. Thanks for making these videos! I’d love to see an off-road comparison between the new Crosstrek and Jeep Compass Trailhawk.

  12. Why are there no decent comparisons between AWD and 4×4? Same class of vehicle with same tires? Can someone please do this?

  13. I don’t get it. How can a 4wd be deemed as a ‘proper 4×4’ when half the time it’s 2wd? All 4×4’s in the UK are full time 4wd, such as the Range Rover and Land Rover Discovery 5. What’s all this ‘part time 4wd until the driver selects differently?

  14. When it comes to snow, its ALL about the tires and the awd is usingtires designed for Florida highways not the Rocky mountains.xPut a proper set of snow tires on the awd and it will keep up with the truck

  15. Better off road tires, for the Mitsubishi (Or nice snow tires n chains) This would have, made all the difference too 🙂

  16. Stupid video. U can’t compare using two different cars with a v6 vs 4cyl. And different tires. Doesn’t make sense. These guys look n sounds clueless
